2024 Fellowship Cohort

Harry Booth

TIME

Harry is a London-based reporter covering artificial intelligence. He holds degrees in global politics and communications from the University of Auckland.

Lynette Bye

Transformer

Lynette reports on AI policy. She is pivoting to AI because “it became too important not to write about.” Her background is in productivity coaching and blogging, and she holds a BA in Psychology from Harvard University.

Tharin Pillay

TIME

Tharin is a writer, researcher, and reporter interested in how AI and other technologies are changing us. Before TIME, he worked on criminal justice policy, anti-corruption advocacy, and civil society strategy.

Jacob Wulff Wold

Euractiv

Jacob is a tech reporter for Euractiv, based in Brussels. He has a masters degree in applied physics, with specialisation in astroparticle physics and machine learning.

Rocket Drew

The Information

Rocket is an AI reporter based in Berkeley, CA. Prior to Tarbell, Rocket worked at MATS, a leading mentorship program for AI safety researchers.

Kevin Frazier

Lawfare

Kevin is an Assistant Professor of Law at the St. Thomas University College of Law. His writing has featured in TechCrunch, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Lawfare.

Scott J Mulligan

MIT Tech Review

Scott is a reporter on artificial intelligence at MIT Tech Review through the Tarbell Fellowship. Scott aims to do deep dives into policy, governance, and the inner workings of AI.

2023 Fellowship Cohort

Anna Gordon

TIME

Anna Gordon is a journalist whose work focuses on public health, global development, and economics. Her writing has appeared in The Economist, Al Jazeera, NPR's The Pulse, and others.

Lauren Gilbert

Part-time

Lauren Gilbert is a research fellow at Open Philanthropy. She researches possible new cause areas for Open Philanthropy in global health and well-being. Her work has been previously published in The Washington Post and Works in Progress.

Yasmin Rafiei

Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley

Yasmin Rafiei is Reporter-in-Residence at the University of California Berkeley’s Investigative Reporting Program. She is also an M.D. candidate at Stanford University. Her journalism focuses on health care reform.

Avi Ackermann

Coda

Avi Ackermann is a Eurasia-focused  international affairs journalist based in New York City. He is a Dean's Distinguished Graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with B.A.s in Linguistics and Plan II Honors.

Mathias Gjesdal Hammer

TIME

Mathias Gjesdal Hammer is an international affairs journalist based between Washington D.C. and Oslo, Norway. Before becoming a Tarbell Fellow, he worked for Klassekampen, one of Norway’s largest newspapers.

Laura González Salmerón

Part-time

Laura González Salmerón wears many hats: she’s an investment analyst, a writer, a podcast host and PhD candidate in Modern Languages at the University of Oxford.

Will Henshall

TIME

Will Henshall is a science and technology reporter based in New York City. He holds a masters in chemistry from the University of Oxford and a masters in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.
